After qualifying in Leicester, Philip moved to West
Yorkshire and worked for Designer Maker Furniture, a company specialising
in making fine furniture . He gained experience in a wide variety of
projects before moving to the Cotswolds where he joined Elliott
& Co, a high quality cabinet making and joinery company.
Here he worked on prestigious projects including furnishing the library
of Manchester College in Oxford. |

In 1995
Philip returned to Leicestershire. Tooley Park Furniture started life
that year in premises on a friend’s farm. After 2 years Philip
built a workshop at his home where he has worked ever since. |

Always keen to learn
new skills, Philip has enrolled on a number of short courses over the
years including training with David
Charlesworth. He also spent five months at the
College
of the Redwoods
in California in 2004. In February 2006 he spent three weeks in
Tanzania as a volunteer working for
Village Education Project (Kilimanjaro)
training local carpenters to use donated woodworking machinery.
